Last night reminded me that wellness
is about so much more than what we eat
what supplements we take
how we exercise.
A girlfriend joined me for a sunset dinner last night
at a local restaurant with outdoor seating.
She's originally from the Midwest
and I'm originally from Canada
we both laughed when we spotted
meatloaf, mashed potatoes and coleslaw
on the menu.
It felt like a nostalgic nod to our roots
something not often found on menus
here in South Florida.
We bonded! LOL
She's a retired Nurse Practitioner
and I as a retired Chiropractic Physician
our conversation naturally drifted
toward healthcare
our concerns.
After dinner, we sat poolside
at my home for a nightcap.
The conversation shifted from healthcare to home
She commented on how peaceful my home feels.
In that moment, I realized something.
Creating environments that support well-being
has always come naturally to me.
I love decorating
I love browsing home stores
I love transforming ordinary spaces
I love staging homes for my real estate clients
to inspire peace.
One of my favorite examples
sits right behind these white roses
compliments of Roy xo
Years ago, I purchased an 8-foot by 5-foot canvas
from an art gallery in San Francisco.
When it arrived
I knew immediately it wasn't right for my space
I painted over it with warm earth tones.
When I moved to Florida
the warm California earth tones
no longer fit my Miami Modern aesthetic
I painted over it again.
Today that same canvas creates
calming water-inspired energy
that complements my Florida home.
Sometimes we don't need something new
we simply need to reimagine what we already have.
One of my favorite decorating secrets
is shopping thrift stores, consignment shops
and second-hand boutiques.
Often the treasure isn't the artwork itself
it's the frame, the texture, the scale
or the potential hiding underneath.
The environments we create matter.
Our homes influence our well-being
they affect our mood, creativity
and they can nurture.
